The ensemble Musical Banquet was formed at the end of 2007 by Malcolm Pearce, keyboard specialist, composer and conductor, formerly Director of Music at Magdalene College School, Oxford; Tricia McLaughlin, professional classical guitarist, Lutenist and Baroque strings specialist and Adrian Boorman, a Countertenor and former student at Birmingham Conservatoire.

The trio had already worked with each other on previous occasions and it seemed a natural progression to combine their skills and passion for Early Music into a group which could take authentic performance out to a wider audience with vigour and vitality. This led them to start to meet regularly, playing and singing just for enjoyment and these sessions invariably concluded with a hearty meal (their rehearsals still often do!) giving rise to the idea of a musical banquet which the group were later to adopt as their concert theme. Thus Musical Banquet was born!

The group has come a long way from its first public concert in January 2008 and now performs around twelve shows each year. Appearing in prestigious venues such as Dorchester Abbey, Winchester College, the restored Jacobean building King of Hearts in Norwich and Harris Manchester College in Oxford as well as further afield in the Scottish Castles of Brodie and Drum and on the island of Lindisfarne, the Oxfordshire trio is now receiving critical acclaim on a wider stage.

Musical Banquet produces flexible programmes of vocal and instrumental music, interspersed with colourful period anecdotes, tailored to client requirements, and including many for Charity Fundraising. We would be delighted to talk with you about performing at your event.
